Assessment to promote learning: the case of a university course

Abstract





The In recent years, discussions in literature have increasingly been focused on assessment for learning and assessment as learning. After making explicit the characteristics of the two approaches, the contribution presents an experience of assessment for learning and assessment as learning at University. The experience gains more significance in relation to the type of course: Assessment Techniques and Methods within the Primary Education Science degree course. In this peculiar context, the assessment pathway undertaken not only results in a significant experience but it also leads to a reflection on the assessment value with regard to the future role of teachers. The results achieved, in terms of development of assessment competence and feedbacks received, show that the pathway allowed the learners to achieve high levels of learning and satisfaction related to the didactics.
