First results of Collaborative Problem Solving in PISA 2015
Main Article Content
Abstract
The results of the 2015 OCSE-PISA for Collaborative Problem Solving were recently
presented by Invalsi. The framework used in the 2015 study takes up the framework of cognitive processes already defined for PISA 2012, integrating it with the specific competencies and skills necessary in a collaborative context. The average of Italian students (478 points) is significantly below the OECD average (500), unlike what happened in 2012, where the Problem Solving was the best Italian result ever in PISA. The collaborative component represented the main weakness for Italian students. Other results are also discussed, such as: gender differences, with a significant advantage of girls on boys; the differences within the education system are confirmed, by the North-South areas and by type of education; students' perceptions about relationships with classmates, teachers and parents. The potential impact of the results and methodologies of PISA on the national debate on education and on the professional training of teachers are discussed.
