Abstract





The recent transformations that have involved the world of the school and, in particular, the professionalism of teachers, are increasingly aimed at improving to educational offer and the levels of competence to be achieved by the students. The imperative of change, focused on improvement, inevitably calls for the need to assess the school system and the work of teachers in particular, being the main protagonists of the school together with the students. The present contribution is focused on the assessment of secondary school teachers, that, very recently, are invested, by important transformations in the modalities of selection and initial assessment. In addition to retracing, through a brief historical-legislative overview, the methods of recruitment and in service assessment, it will try to highlight the importance of a "self-assessment culture" as a model of lifelong learning with a view to professionalisation of teachers and strengthening of the whole educational offer.
