STEM. Between educational perspectives and training challenges

Abstract

In accordance with the main political-regulatory directions, there is a growing awareness towards STEM disciplines, linked to the numerous requests from the labour market. Technical-scientific skills are necessary to cope with the green and digital transitions. Training in STEM is an issue that urges the promotion of the educational value these disciplines can offer. This requests the pedagogical sciences, in dialogue with the hard sciences, for an approach to STEM oriented towards integral, fair and sustainable human development; it involves pedagogists, teachers and students engaged in STEM training. Among the perspectives to which this contribution presents, the following heuristic question, that comes from the initial phase of the research "Science for benefit. Training young generations in scientific thinking for active citizenship", is considered emblematic: what training is necessary to promote the educational value of STEM?
