New Educational Professionalities amid Demographic and Technological Change: The Street Educator as an Urban ‘Placemaker’
Main Article Content
Abstract
The contribution analyses the evolution of educational professionalities in light of demographic changes—particularly the increase in longevity—and technological developments, including the rise of artificial intelligence, which are redefining cities and communities as lifelong learning ecosystems operating across real and virtual dimensions. In this scenario, educators are required to integrate proximity, mediation, and a conscious use of digital technologies to sustain relationships, participation, and community cohesion. The “Ecosistema Giovani” case study in Florence’s District 4 shows how street educators act as urban placemakers, activating intergenerational ties and contributing to the symbolic and social regeneration of public spaces through light, dialogic, and territorially grounded practices. The findings highlight the emergence of a regenerative competence that connects places, people, and micro-communities, fostering belonging and active citizenship.
